At 25 I made the move up north
I was lookin for something more
Playing shows on this here guitar
My friends all came piled in one car
Then one night they stopped showing up
Couldn’t handle this side of town
They’d stay out drinking till the early light
Then say “Hey man we missed you last night”
Just another night I wasn’t there
Just another night I’m missing out
Just because I’m the one who left
Doesn’t mean I wanna I get left behind
Just last week mumma said to me
“Don’t forget my anniversary.
Will you be here where you belong?”
Sorry mum I’m playing in Geelong
Today I got the first of these calls
Two friends were gonna give it their all
The engagement parties on the 21st
Sorry man I’m playin in Bathurst
Just another night I wasn’t there
Just another night I’m missing out
Just because I’m the one who left
Doesn’t mean I wanna I get left behind
Another night alone has come and gone
The life I chose has left me feeling torn
New towns and unfamiliar faces
Are trying to steal already taken places
For all the nights you thought I’d be there
You know it’s not that I don’t care
I’m trying to be the only thing I can
One day soon I hope you’ll understand
All those nights that I wasn’t there
All those nights that I’m missing out
Just because im the one who left
Doesn’t mean I wanna get left behind

Underneath The Stars
04:01

Early in the morning, about seven am
The lights are low, the sprits too
As you crawl out of bed
Another day in a place, that treats you worse than they pay
You stumble back into the room
To fight with your black jeans
You put a leg on either side
As you kiss me goodbye
And in that moment, im thinking where else we could be
And in that moment im thinking why don’t we
Just quit our jobs tonight
Just quit our jobs and drive
Drive all night and find a place for us
Camp outside and I can play guitar
And sing you to sleep, underneath the stars.
It’s 2am once again and im just heading home
smell of beer and cigarettes
I didn’t even indulge
Been a long night in the bar
Playing songs to no-one
On the road and out of sight
No one round this time of night
I pull the car around the side
Doing my best to keep it quiet
And in that moment, im thinking where else we could be
And in that moment im thinking why don’t we
Just quit our jobs tonight
Just quit our jobs and drive
Drive all night and find a place for us
Camp outside and I can play guitar
And sing you to sleep, underneath the stars.

Walkin by your old house in the morning rain
In that three piece you bought for my birthday
Something about it just don’t fit anymore
It aint felt right since the day you left
I haven’t felt like moving on
I know I could mend if I tried
And I wonder if you’re coming home
And I wonder just how things might have been
Remember the days we come home in the early morn
Walking arm in arm id take you to your front door
We’d be tired and cold but playful all the same
It was nice to have a friend like you for sure
I haven’t seen a sunrise since you left
I know id think of you if I did
And I Wonder if we’ll ever get it back
And I wonder just how things might have been
Three short months have turned into four long years
You’ve moved well where I’m still moving slow
You got the job the husband, the baby and that makes three
And im in a share house for the tenth year in a row
And I wonder if you still think of us
And I wonder if he treats you like a queen
And I wonder if im ever growing up
And I wonder just how things might have been

Nowhere Else

Come hide with me, down cobbled stones and laneway paths
Come hide with me, in tiny bars with leather chairs
Lets sneak away, we’ll blend right in in something black
Lets sneak away, to an open garden out the back
Its only a dot on the map, but it’s ours tonight
It’s only a place to live, but its home tonight
We’ll start it off, waving our hands on the side of the road
We’ll start it off, by finding a place we aint been before
It’s not who you know, don’t trust a bar with lines no more
It’s not who you know, we’ll get around just fine alone
Cause we got tonight and tonight’s sure got us
Cause we got time and the time is right for us
Its only a dot on the map, but it’s ours tonight
It’s only a place to live, but its home tonight
Its only them bright city lights, and they’re ours tonight
It only a big small town, and there’s nowhere else tonight
I’d rather be than getting lost out in the streets in the cold
Hand in hand we’ll take it in come on babe this town is right for us you’ll see
Its only a dot on the map, but it’s ours tonight
It’s only a place to live, but its home tonight
Its only them bright city lights, and they’re ours tonight
It only a big small town, and there’s nowhere else
There’s nowhere else there’s nowhere else
There’s nowhere else there’s nowhere
Come hide with me, down cobbled stones and laneway paths
Come hide with me, in tiny bars with leather chairs
It’s only here, there’s nowhere else there’s nowhere
It’s you and me, there’s nowhere else there’s nowhere else

That's For Sure

It looks like here we go again, you left me on my own
You found someone you just had to know, it never takes long
See you turning on the charm, your lines are getting old
How long will it take for you to know I’m out in the cold
I know what you came here for
Not to be my friend, that’s for sure
You cant keep leaving me behind, and thinking I’ll pretend
“Remember when…” is a hard thing to say, without your old friends
You know all I want from you
Is a better friend, that’s for sure
I see now you wont ever change, I guess I should have known
It looks like here I go again, I’m going home alone
You’ve shown who you really are
A shallow friend, that’s for sure
You lost what you came here with
A life-long friend, that’s for sure.
